The W824 midi lathe continues to be a best seller. It’s size is such that it can accomplish most of the projects turners are likely to try. It is also Charnwood’s largest lathe that can be moved off the bench when not in use. Threfore its size and weight makes it manageable to move. Please remember that it is 32KG and care should be taken when lifting to avoid personal injury. It might be best to get a helping hand when moving the W824. The W824 has also been further developed to now include an indexing system on the headstock spindle. It also has more robust electronics, specifically designed for UK voltage.

The bed of the lathe is one-piece precision ground cast iron giving 14″ between centres. Its bowl turning capacity is 12″ diameter over the bed. Also a very low speed which is achieved using a converter and a DC motor. A clear LCD display shows the current RPM.

The tool rest banjo is a cam-lock design for rapid adjustments with all metal components. The tool rest is also the ever popular round bar made from hardened steel.
The headstock is hollow centred therefore allowing for easy tool removal.  The tailstock is also hollow and has automatic centre removal.

Drive and tail centres 2MT. Knockout bar. 6″ toolrest with 5/8″ shank. 3″ diameter faceplate. Tool holder, carrying handles and also a cable tidy.
N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used. Maximum distance is 450mm (18″).
